A lot is happening these days as we approach the winter season. Projects in China are at all stages of development. China Maple is now closed for the winter but is in the final stages of grow-in of the 3rd nine holes, scheduled to open next spring. The golf course at Wuhan Yishan continues to mature with minor adjustments to landscaping and grass areas being made before the official opening next May. Construction continues on Red Valley Golf Club in Tai Ning,Fujian Province with 4 holes being grassed this month. Meanwhile, planning work continues on Phase III of Gaoligong Golf Resort and 4 other new projects. At the end of October, Rick hosted the annual meeting of the Executive Committee of the American Society of Golf Course Architects at his home and at Prestonwood Country Club. The meeting involved all the present officers of ASGCA and headquarters staff to discuss all aspects of direction and current conditions at ASGCA. In December, Rick will be a featured speaker at the Asia Golf Show in Shenzhen where he will address "The Growth of Golf in China". This is a topic that everyone who does business there wants to know more about. Rick will present some suggestions for how the game can grow in an orderly fashion and within the culture and system of China. The renovation of Yinhong #6 at Yintai Hongye Golf Club in Beijing has been very successful so far. With the onset of cold weather, shaping work will stop for the year in early November but landscaping and bunker work will continue over the winter as weather allows. All 18 greens have been shaped by Don Habenicht along with many of the most important bunkers. The changes to the course are quite massive and this will become one of the best facilities in Beijing when completed.
